What is Canada’s Outstanding Principals ^TM

Canada’s Outstanding Principals^TM recognizes the unique and crucial contributions of principals in publicly funded schools.

National Academy of Canada’s Outstanding Principals creates a learning community of outstanding principals across Canada who can share professionally, interact collegially and act as mentors to new colleagues. It provides avenues for research and sharing of best practices. As part of this Academy, these leading principals continue their development through an online forum with professionally facilitated modules.

National Nomination and Selection Process

Through the Program Advisory Committee organized by the Learning Partnership, a set of selection criteria has been defined that will guide the nominations for selection. School Boards, provincial and territorial associations across Canada are alerted to the beginning of the Nomination Process for the current year. The local provincial or territorial principals' association accepts nominations, reviews each submission and passes them on to The Learning Partnership for submission to the National Selection Committee made up of educational, community and business leaders from across the country. The National Selection Committee determines 30 Canada’s Outstanding Principals Winners. Nominees will have shown career potential and willingness to have an even more important impact on publicly funded education in the future. Executive Leadership Training Program 2013

The five-day program is designed to foster executive leadership in education. It will be held February 24 to February 28, 2013 at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management, where they will: 1) engage in a multi-faceted Leadership Development experience with their colleagues from across Canada; 2) contribute to a focussed opportunity to share practices with their colleagues; 3) be energized to begin the journey of expanding their impact on their communities and building a personal agenda for community engagement.

Awards Dinner 2013

The Gala Awards Dinner for Canada’s Outstanding Principals took place in Toronto on Tuesday, February 26, 2013. The evening honoured the achievements of 2013 Canada’s Outstanding Principals. 

National Academy of Principals

Each year the winners of Canada’s Outstanding Principals become members of a National Academy of Principals. Throughout the year, these outstanding principals will continue to act as champions of the program. They will also participate in ongoing discussions about leadership issues through an online forum and will be involved in mentoring colleagues in their home schools. They will actively collaborate in developing and communicating about issues important to publicly funded education with research support from The Learning Partnership.
