The Learning Partnership celebrates Champions of Public Education

May 26th 2017
On May 25, internationally renowned education leader Dr. Avis Glaze and the Royal Bank of Canada joined the ranks of former Premiers, Prime Ministers and CEOs as they were inducted into The Learning Partnership’s Champions of Public Education Hall of Fame.

The Learning Partnership honoured the two education stalwarts for their dedication in advancing public education in Canada, at the 19th Annual Champions of Public Education 2017 Tribute Celebration, which united about 500 business, education and government leaders at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in support of creating opportunities for students to grow, succeed and thrive.

Olympian, world champion and sports broadcaster Perdita Felicien entertained guests as the emcee for the evening.

Ontario Minister of Education Mitzie Hunter welcomed attendees and thanked Dr. Glaze and RBC for their commitment to public education in Canada.

The Tribute Celebration also put a spotlight on student achievement. A Grade 12 student courageously shared her personal essay, on her experiences facing mental health issues, which she penned as part of the Turning Points program. Student participants from The Learning Partnership’s programs, including Entrepreneurial Adventure, Coding Quest, Global Solutions, Investigate! Invent! Innovate! and Save the Camp!, were interviewed on stage about their achievements.

During the reception, attendees also enjoyed interacting with students who presented their innovative projects to guests at the Student Innovation Showcase.
Special thanks to our various event partners who made the Tribute Celebration possible:
