About Ron Canuel

Ron Canuel's headshot
Appointed President and CEO of The Learning Partnership in September 2017, Ron Canuel has more than 42 years of experience in the public education sector, his most recent as President and CEO of the Canadian Education Association. He has been a teacher, coordinator, vice-principal, principal, Assistant Director and Director of Human Resources. He was the Director General of the Eastern Townships School Board in Quebec from 1999 until his retirement in 2010. 

Fully bilingual, Ron participates on many provincial, national and international level committees focusing on education, technology, leadership, and change. He was a long-standing member of the Quebec Superior Council of Education, Secondary Commission, and past President of the Association of Directors General of English School Boards of Quebec as well as the Montreal Association of School Administrators. Ron has extensive experience working in the Indigenous world of education in Canada, including working directly in classrooms with educators.

Among his many successes, Ron was the principal architect of Canada’s first and only district-wide one-to-one computing environment for students and teachers; he developed a partnership agreement with the government of Uruguay and deployed over 400,000 OLPC laptop computers to their schools; and he helped to establish a unique entente with the world famous Cirque du Soleil, in which teachers from the ETSB provide direct synchronous instruction to students in Tokyo, Brazil and parts of North America. Ron has won numerous awards for leadership in education at municipal, provincial and national levels, and was honoured as “Hero in Education” by Reader’s Digest – Select in 2010.

Ron's experiences during his ascent through the educational ranks have taught him well, giving him a thorough perspective into the challenges and successes of the Canadian public school system. He is in demand as a keynote speaker, nationally and internationally, sharing his insights into the most effective methods of introducing change innovation in the classroom and on how to reform the educational system.
