Girls and Information Technology

Female underrepresentation in IT work and school programs is a global phenomenon that has been documented for at least three decades. High school courses can be critical for introducing girls to IT. The Learning Partnership and the Information and Communications Technology Council are pleased to present a workshop conducted by Heather Smith, Senior Research Associate, Queen's University School of Business who has done extensive research in this area. Please join us for a hands-on session which will explore how technology teaching could be 'done differently' to appeal more broadly to girls.

The Learning Partnership and CIO Association of Canada are proud to present a webcast for the 100th anniversary of  International Women's Day. The topic will be careers in Information Technology and the career journey of three women in IT leadership. The presentation will be a one-hour webcast and geared toward students in Grades 7-10.

This half-day mini-summit will explore multiple aspects of social media and its potential for use in today’s classrooms. Our panel of experts will include students and innovative educators from elementary and secondary schools and universities, as well as a school board IT manager.

The Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Leadership Institute

The ICT Leadership Institute has been designed specifically for educational leaders to encourage ICT as a tool to improve student achievement and engagement in learning. Leaders participate in a two-part program designed to provide opportunities for learning from experts and sharing best practices among a variety of boards. The Institute will be offered as required to meet demands from a variety of Ontario school boards.

ICT Strategic Planning: Consultation and Facilitation

The Round Table on Technology team can offer a range of assistance, advice, and support for educational systems including focus groups, strategic planning, and customized frameworks for using ICT effectively.

This team of experienced educators has successfully worked with boards to consult with stakeholders, develop strategic plans, create new synergies amongst staff, and jointly build realistic, achievable solutions for improving student achievement through the use of ICT.
