Meridian Collaborates with The Learning Partnership to Improve Youth Financial Literacy

The Learning Partnership and Meridian have partnered to develop an innovative solution to a longstanding challenge: building financial literacy skills in Canadian youth.  Meridian and The Learning Partnership are committed to building a digital educational game delivered through a mobile application and website, with a projected launch in November 2016 to coincide with National Financial Literacy Month.
 
Research demonstrates that over 80% of young Canadians are not confident in their financial knowledge. Despite this identified gap, studies by The Learning Partnership indicate that financial literacy is the least supported 21st century skill in the classroom.  Financial literacy impacts everyone.  Excessive debt, inability to understand basic financial terms and contracts, and financial management issues affect a person’s short- and long-term prospects and hinder economic growth. 
 
It’s time for a bold intervention. Canadian youth need products that are fun, engaging and authentic, and that they can connect to through their favourite mobile devices. To ensure a financially literate generation of future Canadians, there must be development that focuses on the experience, with input from gamification experts, financial literacy experts, and most importantly, students themselves.
 
The Learning Partnership has been building extensive knowledge and expertise in education gamification.  Recent projects include the Real Talk career app.  Real Talk has had one of the most successful education app launches in Canada, with over 35,000 downloads within the first month of its November release.  Previous projects of The Learning Partnership include a successful Kindergarten preparation app for the Welcome to Kindergarten program.
